DARcorporation announces that it has partnered with Nexaer Corporation to restart the development of the LS1 Light Sport Aircraft. Work on the LS1 began in 2004 and was put on hold in late 2007 due to the downturn in the U.S. economy and the declining condition of the general aviation industry. DARcorporation engineers performed the original preliminary design work and are now planning to assist Nexaer with continued flight testing and data collection. Follow-on work will include design refinement and manufacturing engineering.
The Nexaer LS1 uses advanced carbon fiber composite technology and a Nexaer-developed manufacturing process that saves significant weight and cost compared to conventional construction methods. The aircraft is expected to be certified as a factory-complete Light Sport Aircraft, and promises snappy performance, a comfortable ride, and low cost of ownership.
A quarter-scale model of the Nexaer LS1 will be on display at DARcorporation’s exhibit booth at AirVenture 2013, Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 29 – August 4, 2013 (Hangar C – Booth 3176)
“We’re helping to re-start the Nexaer program” said Dr. Willem Anemaat, President of DARcorporation, “and we’re planning to make this airplane a frontrunner in the Light Sport Aircraft market, using advanced composite technology and our unique airplane design experience, as we do for all of our clients.”
