DARcorporation engineers are able to simulate aircraft interaction with an updraft, due to the heat source from a flare stack. The form of heat source is not limited to flare stack and other sources can be modeled.

Utilizing Siemens STAR-CCM+ Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation software, the heat release rate is used to determine the surface area of the flame. The thermodynamic model assumes combustion has already occurred and only the flame is modeled. With each aircraft location update, the updraft is checked against FAR regulation to determine if the updraft speed is within the acceptable range.
